In Catholicism does a Roman Catholic priest have the authority to forgive sin? In the Jewish religion does or did the priest have authority to forgive sin? Why did Jesus claim the authority to forgive sin?
He also raised the dead. –John 4:46-53.
If a modern doctor with all his medicines had been somehow transported back in time to Capernaum, 2000 years ago, what would have been the likelihood that he might have saved the life of this little boy? What could a modern doctor have done once the boy died? Jesus’ miracle in this case was that He prevented a death which was almost always fatal in that day. We could say that same thing about Peter’s wife’s mother, and about the lepers and others.
Luke 7:11-17.
What is the likelihood that this young man was really dead? Why did great fear come on all those who witnessed or heard about this? What did the people say about Christ as a result of this miracle? (A great prophet is risen up among us.) Isn’t it true that Elijah and Elisha also raised the dead? What made what Jesus do different from what they did? (I Kings 17:21).
Matthew 9:18-19, 23-26.
What were some of the miracles which took place at the moment of Jesus’ death? (Graves were opened.) Don’t you find that rather coincidental?
John 14:6.
Did Jesus say that He knew the way to life?
I John 5:11-12.
Jesus’ worship.
Matthew 8:2; John 9:35-39.
Were these actions nothing more than respect for an important man?
John 20:27-29.
What did the disciples mean by these words? How did the disciples react when people mistakenly “worshiped” them (Acts 10:25-26)? How strongly did the Jews feel against idol worship or the worship of men? Were the disciples so ignorant or evil that they wouldn’t have thought about worshipping Jesus?
Paul’s testimony.
Romans 9:1-5.
Philippians 2:6-11. Verses 6-8 describe Christ as having two natures: divine and human (the Servant). Verses 9-11 equate Jesus with the Lord – Jehovah.
Colossians 1:15-17.
Would you say that I am a good illustration or image of God? Jesus casts a good image of the Father, because He is one with Him in their deity. Did the miraculous works of Christ in any way hinder His image of God? The term “firstborn” over all creation means that as the eternal Son, He is the heir of all things.
Colossians 2:9.
Titus 2:13.
Other Biblical statements about Jesus’ deity.
Luke 3:22.
Matthew 16:15-17.
Did the Lord ever overlook ignorant or sinful statements? Why didn’t the Lord rebuke Peter for this over-the-top statement about Jesus?
Acts 2:36.
II Peter. 1:1.
Hebrews 1:3, 8.
John 1:1, 14.
How can the “logos” be both separated from God and identified as God at the same time?
I John 5:20.
Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.

Proclaim ye this among the Gentiles; Prepare war, wake up the mighty men, let all the men of war draw near; let them come up: Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruninghooks into spears: let the weak say, I am strong.
Assemble yourselves, and come, all ye heathen, and gather yourselves together round about: thither cause thy mighty ones to come down, O LORD. Let the heathen be wakened, and come up to the valley of Jehoshaphat: for there will I sit to judge all the heathen round about.
Isaiah 60:19-20 – John 8:12
The sun shall be no more thy light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light unto thee: but the LORD shall be unto thee an everlasting light, and thy God thy glory. Thy sun shall no more go down; neither shall thy moon withdraw itself: for the LORD shall be thine everlasting light, and the days of thy mourning shall be ended.

Isaiah 42:8 (48:11) – John 17:1, 5
I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images. For mine own sake, even for mine own sake, will I do it: for how should my name be polluted? and I will not give my glory unto another.
Isaiah 41:4; 44:6 – Revelation 1:17; 2:8
Who hath wrought and done it, calling the generations from the beginning? I the LORD, the first, and with the last; I am he. Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.
Hosea 13:14 – Revelation 5:9
I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy destruction: repentance shall be hid from mine eyes.
Isaiah 62:5; – Revelation 21:2 (Matthew 25:1)
For Zion’s sake will I not hold my peace, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest, until the righteousness thereof go forth as brightness, and the salvation thereof as a lamp that burneth. And the Gentiles shall see thy righteousness, and all kings thy glory: and thou shalt be called by a new name, which the mouth of the LORD shall name. Thou shalt also be a crown of glory in the hand of the LORD, and a royal diadem in the hand of thy God. Thou shalt no more be termed Forsaken; neither shall thy land any more be termed Desolate: but thou shalt be called Hephzibah, and thy land Beulah: for the LORD delighteth in thee, and thy land shall be married. For as a young man marrieth a virgin, so shall thy sons marry thee: and as the bridegroom rejoiceth over the bride, so shall thy God rejoice over thee.

But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
Psalm 148:2 – Hebrews 1:6

Psalm 148:5 – Colossians 1:16

Isaiah 45:23 – Philippians 2:11
Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else. I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.
