Armageddon – Revelation 16

  1. What was the final end of the colossal image in Nebuchadnezzar’s dream? (Destroyed by the stone cut out of the mountain without hands).
    1. That stone represents what or whom? (The coming of the Lord).
    2. Would you say that ending was peaceful or violent?
  2. What is the last earthly battle usually called? (The Battle of Armageddon).
    1. From where do we get that name? (Revelation 16:12-16).
    2. Is it a single battle? (The word “polemos” refers to a war, while “mache” signifies a single battle).
  3. What will be the site of that campaign? (The valley of Jezreel or Megiddo in northern Israel).
    1. What are the approximate dimensions of that site? (15 miles wide and 20 miles long – from CdA to the Spokane Airport).
    2. Will this battle be confined to that site? (Revelation 14:13-20 indicates that the devastation of this battle will be about 160-170 miles – covering much of Israel.)
  4. How are the human armies brought to Armageddon? (Unclean spirits – Revelation 16:13-16).
    1. Will there be other elements provoking this battle?
    2. What sort of things do you suppose they will be? (Greed, hatred, etc.)
  5. Who will be the Beast of Revelation 13? (Commonly called “Antichrist.”)
    1. Who are his primary allies? (Satan and the False Prophet).
    2. Over how much of the world will he have “power”? (All, Revelation 13:7).
    3. Will his rule be peaceful?
    4. What will be going on during his reign? (The seals, vials and trumpets).
    5. Will these tend to strengthen or destabilize his government? (It appears that he will loose control in part prompting Armageddon.)
  6. What armies will be involved in the Battle of Armageddon? (South, North, East and Antichrist).
  7. Daniel 11 is considered by many scholars to illustrate the Hermaneutical rule of “Double Reference;” what is that? (Early partial fulfillment and then a more complete fulfillment.)
    1. This chapter is believed by many to describe some of the events of Armageddon. Which army will be the first to attack Israel? (The South).
    2. What army will be his primary opponent initially? (The North).
    3. From what other direction does a new army approach? (The East).
    4. Many scholars believe that Daniel 11:42 begins to describe the Antichrist and his army. Why would they say that? (Verse 44 refers to tidings out of the North troubling “him”).
    5. If that interpretation is correct, how many armies will be in Israel at that time? (Four).
  8. In Zechariah 12:1-4, 8-9 what does it mean that Jerusalem is a cup of trembling? (Intoxicating to those armies).
    1. Who will come upon the four armies which will be vying for Jerusalem? (The Lord Jesus).
  9. According to Zechariah 12:9 the Lord will “seek to destroy” those armies; according to Revelation 19:11-21 will he be successful?
    1. What will happen to the Antichrist at that time?
    2. What will happen to the False Prophet?
    3. What will happen to Satan (Revelation 20:1-3)?
