Introduction:
“For by _________________ are ye _________________ through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the
___________________ of God: not of __________________, lest any man should _________________.”
“Grace” in Eph. 2:8 refers to (that cute girl you knew back in the 11th grade; prayer before meals; salvation; the unmerited favor of God). Favor.
In order to receive a gift, someone must first (give a gift; be worthy of the gift; at least be friendly toward the giver; scale Mount Everest). None of these
Eph 2:1 is related to Eph. 2:8 (as the cause of grace; as the result of grace; as the reason and need for grace; as the glory of grace) Reason, need and in some ways as the glory of grace.
According to Eph. 1:3-6 God determined to adopt people into His family (as each was saved; when they repented; when they put their faith in Christ; before the foundation of the world). Eternity past
The word “predestined” (Gr. “proorizo” – pro-or-id’-zo) means (preordain, predetermine, decide ahead of time; to decree). All.
The word “proorizo” is found six times in the Bible and is translated (predestinate; determine before; ordain; write in a date planner). All but date planner.
The people predestinated to be adopted were (dead in trespasses and sins; religious people; gracious people; chosen by God in Christ Jesus). Dead in sin and chosen by God.
How closely related are Eph. 1:4 and I Pet. 1:2? (Remotely, closely, very closely, not at all) Very closely
What words might be freely exchanged between those verses? (Foundation & foreknowledge; according & according; sanctification & holy; chosen & elect). All but the first pair.
How closely related are the words “chosen” and “elected”? (Remotely, closely, very closely, not at all)
Biblical terms.
If an artist doesn’t like the sculpture he is making, he can (paint it blue; destroy it; sell it to the first fool who comes along; burn it in the fire). Any of these.
How did mankind originate? (Evolution; interplanetary transference; miraculous creation by Jehovah; the marriage of mother earth and father time). Creation.
It is accurate to think of God as (a potter; creator; engineer employed by General Motors; co-laborer with us). Creator and potter are Biblical representations of God.
What right has God got to destroy His creation and all people? (None; every; some; 10%) Every right.
What right has God got to choose to destroy one part of His creation and to glorify another? (None; every; some; 10%) Every right.
Election.
Matthew 24 describes what will take place “immediately after the tribulation.” Among other things, God shall send his angels, with a great sound of a trumpet, to gather a certain people to Himself. Who specifically? (The wicked; the saved; all the people of the world; His elect). His elect.
Those people will be selected based upon (their faith; their dedication; God’s choice; Satan’s mark) Choice
Peter sent his first Biblical letter (epistle) to (the Roman Christians; the Jerusalem Christians; the newspaper editor; God’s elect). “Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father.”
Calling.
“For ye see your ___________________, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many
mighty, not many noble, are _________________: But God hath _______________ the foolish things of
the world to confound the wise…….. That no flesh should glory in his presence.”
“And we know that all things work together for ____________ to them that __________ God, to them who are the ______________ according to his ____________.”
Moreover whom he did ______________________, them he also called: and whom he _______________, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.”
Chosen
“Chosen” is a good synonym for (saints; the elected; the saved; good; NFL draftees). Elect
But God hath _______________ the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath
________________ the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base
things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God _____________, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are.”
Predestination.
The Bible teaches that God (is never angry; He never punishes; He never changes; He never rebukes sinners). Never changes.
The Bible teaches that God is never (surprised; confounded; deceived; confused). All of these.
Has the Lord ever been surprised that some wicked sinner repented and turned to Christ?
“For whom he did _____________________, (God) also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of
his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did ________________
them he also _______________: and whom he _____________, them he also justified: and whom he
justified, them he also glorified.
“In (Christ) also we have obtained an ______________________, being predestinated according to the
__________________ of him who worketh __________ ____________ after the counsel of his own will.”
Foreknowledge.
“__________________ according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through ___________________ of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ.”
The subject of this verse is (godly living; salvation; Heaven; Christian happiness). Salvation
Foreknowledge is God’s ability to (elect; know ahead of time; save; glorify the inglorious). Know ahead.
Does foreknowledge mean that something was unknown to God until He looked into the future?
Peter said that Christ was “delivered by the _______________ counsel and _________________ of God.”
This suggests that God’s foreknowledge is not merely seeing something in the future, but that it actually (determines; suggests; controls; guesses) the future. Determines and controls.
What election does.
God’s election is not (salvation; a choice; His prerogative; guaranteed). Salvation.
“We are ____________ to give _____________alway to God for you, brethren ___________of the Lord,
because God hath from the _______________chosen you _______ salvation through sanctification of the
Spirit and belief of the truth.”
Election eliminates the need for (repentance; faith in Christ; gospel preaching; praying for the lost). None
Election robs man of his (freedom; free will; yearning for salvation; yearning for sin). None of these.
Without election sinners (would be saved anyway; they could choose or not choose to be saved; would all be forever lost; would be happy and content). Lost.
The doctrine of election (offends people; is contrary to man’s nature; is hidden in the Bible; is untrue).
Because it offends people, election should be (minimized; hidden; preached graciously; hate). Preached.
Salvation by sovereign grace and election glorifies (theological intellects; God; sinners; smart believers).
